Semi-literate society is still in its infancy as a concept and as a community. We are dedicated to the value of free speech. The future goal is for this to be a place that facilitates critical thinking and discourse about important society topics. Far too often important issues are raised on platforms like YouTube, X (formerly called Twitter), and Instagram, and left to die, unresolved in a mess of words that ultimately dissolve into banter and insults fostered by word count limits. Semi-literate society seeks to be the antithesis of the hostile, provocative, immature, oversimplified, one-word bickering left in YouTube comments and X threads. Semi-literate society wants to bring these important discussions to a place that encourages people to think critically, engage in civil discourse, and reasonable argument, and give the nuance and respect that is so often absent in the aforementioned environments. The semi-literate society is not for those looking to share their hasty reactions and poorly buttressed opinions but for those willing to take on the challenges of discipline and responsibility required to have meaningful and productive discussions.
